If you have children, you know how challenging they can be sometimes! As much as we love and adore our children, it can be frustrating when they whine, complain, throw temper-tantrums, talk-back, and refuse to cooperate or work! Our children love to push all of our buttons and see exactly how much they can get away with!
The "G.O.L.D. Standard" helps reduce these negative behaviors while at the same time increasing a child's desire to behave in a positive manner. The G.O.L.D. standard provides a "token economy" where children earn tickets for demonstrating good behavior, doing chores, and for developing and utilizing desired values.
They also pay tickets for certain privileges such as watching TV or playing video games. Our children can no longer play video games for hours on end! They must earn the privilege to play and pay a ticket for every fifteen minutes of video time. They also lose tickets for misbehavior, not doing their chores, breaking family rules, and acting inappropriately.
Children respond amazingly well when they have something tangible that can be given or taken away immediately. The positive aspect for parents is that they can respond right away to negative behavior without becoming angry! They can also reward our children on the spot for positive behavior. Many children even start asking their parents for work! Our children love to count how many tickets they have earned each day.
