September 17 - 19, 2010
All tours and presentations will be in ASL. No interpreters will be available.
The Red Cliffs Deaf Branch Conference late registration will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Dixie Seminary Building and dinner will follow at 5:30 p.m.
This year, our theme is "Temples and Testimonies."
Joyanne Burdett, our keynote speaker, will
address this topic by teaching us of a roadway known as the
Honeymoon Trail. This long journey was taken by Saints in
Arizona so that they could be sealed together for time and all
eternity in the St. George Temple. Sister Joyanne K. (Rasmus)
Burdett came
from a four-generation deaf family. After graduating
from the California School for the Deaf in Berkeley, she went on to
Gallaudet (College) University and received her Bachelor of Science
in Library Studies in 1970.
Immediately afterwards, she married Ronald Burdett of Ogden,
Utah, who also graduated from Gallaudet.
After completing her Masters in Special Education and
Vocational Rehabilitation at CSUN in Northridge, she joined the
faculty at the California School for the Deaf where she has served
as a teacher and a librarian. During
this time period, she was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Since then she has held many callings, including Relief
Society President, Young Women’s President, Temple Ordinance Worker,
and most importantly, wife and Mother. She and Ron are the parents
of two children and also have one granddaughter and one grandson on
the way.
She is an outstanding teacher, so come ready to learn!
Tours of the Temple Rock Quarry will begin at 10:00. All tours will be in ASL. No interpreters will be provided.
Lunch will be served at the Dixie Seminary building behind Dixie
High School, and then we will
continue our day by touring the Brigham Young Winter Home.
After a small amount of free time, we will have dinner and then conclude the evening by enjoying the ASL session in the St. George temple. (Remember to bring your temple recommend!) For those who do not currently have a temple recommend, tours in ASL will continue at the St. George Temple Visitor's Center.
We invite you to participate in our worship services of the Red Cliffs 7th Deaf Branch. Sunday School begins at 12:00, which is then followed by Priesthood / Relief Society and Sacrament meeting.
